Overview
The Health Records Department is responsible for the accurate collection, management, storage, retrieval and protection of patients' medical records. It ensures that every patient's information is properly documented and readily available to authorised healthcare professionals — supporting quality patient care, sound clinical decision-making, reporting, billing and hospital administration. The department registers new and returning patients, creates and maintains both physical and electronic health records, and retrieves files quickly and securely whenever they are needed. It also manages the referral information that links GCD with other facilities, safeguards confidentiality and data protection, and prepares the medical statistics and reports that help the hospital plan and improve. Through organised, accessible and secure record-keeping, the department underpins continuity of care and effective communication across the whole hospital.
